Stewart’s Farm – Ecological impact assessment for proposed rezoning
Stewart’s Farm is an iconic property at Skennars Head, of which parts have been proposed as suitable for residential occupation. Following a review of previous assessments the Joint Regional Planning Panel (JRPP) required further information relating to the ecological values of the site (in addition to other matters) to determine whether rezoning of the site was justified.

Development of the future hospital site at Ewingsdale has created an opportunity for associated development on adjacent land, on which a seniors living precinct is proposed. To determine the suitability of the land for future development, AWC completed an ecological and bushfire constraints assessment and also participated in community and stakeholder consultation as part of the process prior to public exhibition. As the site contains two watercourses and numerous mature rainforest trees, these aspects were key components of the project.

The proposed Caloundra South Urban Development Area incorporates threatened acid frog habitat. An assessment of the existing Wallum Sedge Frog pond hydroperiod was undertaken to ensure future constructed habitat ponds provide the correct hydraulic regime for colonisation and continued habitat post development. An Acid Frog Management Plan was completed to protect three acid frog species, all listed as vulnerable under the Nature Conservation Act, 1992, one also listed as vulnerable under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act,1999.
