Meeniyan Waste Water Treatment Plant – Ecological Health & Water Quality Assessment
Review of Environmental Factors | Planning Pathways | Design Documentation
Overview
Meeniyan Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) is a lagoon-based treatment plant. The WWTP was designed to treat Meeniyan’s wastewater using natural lagoon processes (i.e. no mechanical aeration or chemical dosing), with effluent polishing (i.e. nutrient removal) via a duckweed pond and wetlands.
The wetland vegetation intended for nutrient removal, failed to fully establish. Other Vegetation that did establish is now in decline. AWC was engaged to review plant failure , reviewing all aspects of the treatment system and provide solutions to meet discharge to environment objectives.
