West Dapto Riparian Corridor Management Strategy
Catchment Analysis | Treatment Technology | Stakeholder Engagement | Site Investigation | Feasibility Study
Overview
The West Dapto Urban Release Area covers 47km2 of rapidly urbanising rural lands dominated by three powerful & dynamic catchments descending the Illawarra escarpment (>500m asl) to Lake Illawarra. Wollongon City Council has faced significant developer led challenges to riparian corridor mgmt identifying the need for review of the 2004 strategy.
AWC was engaged to provide a contemporary, science-based revision of the Strategy supported by detailed mapping of riparian lands across the area. A multicriteria analysis informed GIS models to categorise each watercourse. Stakeholder engagement occurred with NSW agencies, Council, industry and community groups.
The final Strategy providing detailed mapping, guidance and implementation plan is to be adopted by Council into local environmental planning instruments.
