Yamba Bypass Species Impact Statement
Targeted ecological survey | Detailed reporting | Mapping
Purpose
AWC prepared a Species Impact Statement (SIS) for Section 1 of the proposed Yamba Bypass. The SIS was completed to satisfy Director Generals Requirements (DGRs) and required detailed targeted survey for the Squirrel Glider and Grey-crowned Babbler. Following a full weeks survey for both species using call playback, arboreal trapping and spotlighting methods a detailed SIS including detailed habitat mapping was prepared examining the impacts of the Bypass on these species and detailing a number of mitigation measures.
Objectives
- Document available habitat and local populations of the Squirrel Glider and Grey-crowned Babbler
- Fulfill Director Generals Requirements
- Examine a range of mitigation options based on survey findings
Partners & Stakeholders
- Clarence Valley Council
Outcomes
- Submission of the SIS to the Department of Environment & Heritage (OEH); decision pending
- Identification of a population of Squirrel Gliders within a fragmented peri-urban landscape
