Akuna Wetland Parkes

Fire Access and Fire Trail Upgrade | Review of Environmental Factors | Ecological Assessment Plan | Design Documentation

Purpose

This project sought to rehabilitate the site of the disused maturation ponds at the Parkes sewerage treatment plant (STP). Concept and detailed design were prepared to improve environmental and habitat values, whilst making use of existing hydraulic infrastructure.

The design incorporated a range of habitat features to support a diverse ecosystem, including shoreline variability, horseshoe shaped bays, vertical banks, gently sloping banks, variable bathymetry and deep-water zones, hollow logs and woody debris, perches, a range of vegetation communities, and vegetation-free mudflat areas.
